Policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, patient advocates and civil society representatives from across Europe will come together in Warsaw this June for the EU Cancer Mission Conference “Together Against Cancer through Research and Innovation“ on 17 June 2025. It will be a one-day event focused on the crucial role of research and innovation to advance cancer prevention, early detection, and improving the quality of life for patients and survivors.
The event will take place in Warsaw and livestreamed for online participants. It is organised by the EU Cancer Mission under the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It forms part of the EU’s broader commitment to reducing the cancer burden through innovation, equity, and coordinated action across Member States.
A Unified European Response to Cancer
The conference aligns closely with the objectives of the EU Cancer Mission, which aims to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2023 through prevention cure and for those affected by cancer to live longer and better. As part of the Horizon Europe programme, the Mission funds research and innovation actions that promote prevention and early detection, better diagnostics and treatments and improve survivorship outcomes, while tackling inequalities in care.
The conference will focus on two key pillars of the EU Cancer Mission:
- Cancer prevention and screening, including lifestyle-related risk factors, raising health literacy and removing barriers to access to screening.
- Quality of life, palliative care and survivorship, with special attention to the needs of children, adolescents, and young adults (CAYA) affected by cancer.
Voices from Across Europe
Throughout the day, participants will hear from a range of stakeholders - from EU officials and leading scientists to cancer survivors and grassroots organisations - highlighting the human side of cancer and the transformative potential of European cooperation.
Interactive panels will explore success stories and challenges in prevention, equity and innovation, while a poster exhibition will showcase various EU-funded projects from the 2021-2024 Work Programmes and their impact.
Testimonies from patients and healthcare professionals will provide powerful real-life context, helping to shape a more inclusive and effective European response to cancer.
